最新的统计数据显示，2006～07年度，维州的凶杀案发案率下降了12.7％，重大盗窃案下跌了4.8％，偷车案下降了9.5％。这归功于维州警方多年来严厉打击有组织黑帮犯罪活动，从2004年以来，被逮捕归案的黑帮罪犯数量创出记录，并对321宗严重涉毒案进行检控，罚没$2300万元的毒资。

The Australian VICTORIA'S crime rate has dropped by almost 25 per cent since 2001 as more of the state's major criminals have been locked away.

Since 2004 an unprecedented number of Melbourne's gangland criminals have been brought to justice and this has helped Victoria become the safest state in Australia, according to the annual report of the Department of Justice. It said 181 criminals have been charged with 549 offences, with 15 offenders charged with a total of 27 counts of murder and 14 with incitement, conspiracy or attempted murder. Another 321 serious drug charges have been laid and $23m in assets retained.

The spate of convictions has resulted in an additional 1600 sitting days at the Supreme Court and an additional 1500 sitting days at the Magistrates' Courts. It said the 2006-07 Victoria Police crime statistics show homicides are down 12.7 per cent, aggravated burglary down 4.8 per cent and motor vehicle thefts are 9.5 cent lower.
