蒙纳士大学Monash推出建筑课程(3年本科+2年硕士)
蒙纳士大学的建筑课程包括3年本科和2年硕士,完全满足澳大利亚皇家建筑师协会的专业能力要求。 Architecture at Monash will consist of a 5-year, 2-degree program, which responds to the professional competencies of the Royal Australian Institute of Architects (RAIA):
学生学完第一个本科学位后自动可以晋升到硕士学习。硕士毕业后自动获得澳大利亚建筑师认证公会的认证,这也就意味着蒙纳士大学的硕士建筑学位毕业生在完成规定的2年工作经验并且通过考核后就可以注册为建筑师。
Graduates of the first degree will automatically progress to the second. The program will be seeking recognition by the RAIA and accreditation from the Architects Accreditation Council of Australia (AACA). This means that graduates of the Master of Architecture will be eligible for registration as an architect, after completing the compulsory two year’s work experience and sitting the registration test.
The program will consist of five major areas of study and an electives stream:
-
Architectural design studios
-
Technology (which will be integrated with architectural design studios)
-
Theory and history
-
Communications
-
Professional practice
-
Electives in complementary art/design disciplines (Industrial design, furniture, sculpture, glass, digital media, etc)
In addition, Urban Design Studios will be offered at Monash’s Centre in Prato, Italy and within the Melbourne CBD.
学习建筑师就业前景好 Is there a need for another architecture program?
Research has shown that there are many opportunities for newly qualified architects and this is accompanied by considerable competition among bright students for places in existing architecture courses.
The Department of Employment and Workplace Relations publication, Australian Jobs, indicates ‘very good’ career prospects for architects, suggesting that future demand will be high. According to the 2005 Graduate Destination Survey more than 90 per cent of recent architecture graduates found full time employment and the mean graduate starting salary has risen over the last few years.
A significant number of locally-qualified architects practice internationally, and architects working in Australia successfully tender for projects overseas. In a 2001 speech on globalisation, Peter Costello estimated that ‘off-shore earnings from architecture is some 16 to 20 per cent of Australian architects' fees’.
Compared with other states, there is an undersupply of architecture courses in Victoria – for example, students in New South Wales have ready access four architecture programs in the state, one in the ACT and two in southern Queensland.
The Victorian Tertiary Admissions Centre five year enrolment trend shows that consistently large numbers of high performing quality students miss out on their first preference for architecture. Between 2001 and 2005, first preferences for architecture increased by 26.7 per cent – higher than the overall increase of VTAC first preferences of 10.2 per cent. Demand tends to be higher in the north, north east and south east suburbs of Melbourne, much of it aligning with the Monash catchment.
蒙纳士大学建筑课程的理念 The philosophy of Architecture at Monash
Monash has identified a niche in recognising architecture as the core discipline of the built environment, with a creative vision developed within the broad philosophical framework and the extensive studio and technical resources of the Faculty.
The program will advocate architectural design and the creative use of media and technology. Research will emphasise cutting-edge and experimental architectural practice, as well as theoretical research funding by grants and resulting in publication outcomes. This approach will appeal to prospective Australian and international HDR students, who currently have few opportunities for research ‘in’ architecture. This model has resulted in very strong enrolments in the Faculty’s Fine Arts HDR program, which is the largest in Australia.
课程是如何开发的? How has the course been developed?
The program has been created in consultation with an Advisory Panel of eminent architectural practitioners and academics, comprising:
-
Brit Andresen, Professor of Architecture, University of Queensland
-
John Denton, Director, Denton Corker Marshall and Victorian State Architect
-
Geoffrey London, Professor of Architecture, University of Western Australia and Western Australian State Architect
-
Desley Luscombe, Professor of Architecture and Dean, Faculty of Design, Architecture and Building, University of Technology Sydney
-
Carey Lyon, Director Lyons Architects and National President, Royal Australian Institute of Architects
Associate Professor Sandra Kaji-O’Grady, who is Head of School, Architecture at University of Technology Sydney was also involved in the course design.
The course is being developed to deliver the necessary competencies for practice as an architect (as required by the Royal Australian Institute of Architects and the Architects Accreditation Council of Australia). It will enable students to engage imagination, creativity, analysis, and critical judgment in resolving design issues and prepare them to apply research concepts, strategies and methods to undertaking complex design research.
The involvement of eminent practitioners in developing the course has helped ensure that the course will meet industry needs for architecture. And the involvement of architects in delivering key units and contributing to regular course reviews will ensure professional relevancy.
课程结构如何? How is the course structured?
The program involves five years of study. The three-year Bachelor of Architectural Design is followed by the two year Master of Architecture. Students who successfully complete the Bachelor of Architectural Design will be offered a place in the Master of Architecture.
The course consists of five major areas of study and an electives stream:
-
Architectural design studios
-
Technology (which will be integrated with architectural design studios)
-
Theory and history
-
Communications
-
Professional Practice
-
Electives
Core units will be taught by recognised architectural educators and practitioners. Nationally and internationally acknowledged visiting architects will also be involved with design studios. They will be supported by the Faculty’s lecturers and researchers in history and theory, and related design disciplines.
There will be a professional practice unit, in which students may spend time with an architecture practice. This is a learning experience, and will not count as work experience for registration purposes
蒙纳士大学建筑课程有何与众不同?What makes this course different?
Architecture is framed as a creative activity of cultural significance – the built environment reflects community values and aspirations.
The course is offered from within an art & design school environment, so that students will have access to a range of fine art and design electives, and will study alongside future industrial designers, interior architects and contemporary artists. This provides opportunities for exciting collaborative projects as well as allowing students to form contacts and networks that will last a lifetime.
Technology will be integrated into the design studios, in recognition of the inclusive nature of architectural design.
There will be an urban contexts semester, undertaken either at the University’s PratoCentre in Italy, or in the Melbourne CBD.
Students enrolled in higher research degrees will be encouraged to undertake research ‘in’ architecture, ‘by’ design, rather than just writing about architecture. This means exploring creative and innovative design on the cutting-edge, to improve the built environment, in harmony with the natural environment. This research philosophy will also achieve a close research-teaching nexus, where the experimental work of faculty members and other researchers is brought into the studio.
学校提供哪些设施资源? What facilities and resources are being provided to support the course?
The Architecture program will be offered from the Faculty of Art & Design at the Caulfield Campus. A specific-purpose suite of studios and offices is being created. When complete, it will incorporate a ‘clean’ workshop with CNC equipment to allow for stereolithography, laser cutting and 3D printing.
Students will also be able to use the general Design workshop with its 3D modelling facilities.
The Faculty’s purpose-built digital media studios run on Windows and Macintosh platforms and house a full range of digital resources including industry standard software, digital printing facilities, professional digital video and photomedia studios.
The Fine Arts facilities include the Glass Studio with panoramic views, indoor/ outdoor rooftop workshops and both hot and warm glass capabilities as well as studios for sculpture, printmedia, and metals/jewellery.
The Monash Library has an extensive architecture collection.
我可以注册为建筑师吗? Can I practice as an architect after completing the course?
The course will be seeking recognition by the Royal Australian Institute of Architects (RAIA) and accreditation from the Architects Accreditation Council of Australia (AACA).
This means that graduates of the Master of Architecture will be eligible for registration as an architect, after completing the compulsory two year’s work experience and sitting the registration test
